Taylor Swift Brazil Show Postponed Day After Fan Dies During Show

Taylor Swift postponed her Eras Tour show in Brazil on Saturday after a fan died during her show on Friday night.
“I’m writing this from my dressing room in the stadium. The decision has been made to postpone tonight’s show due to the extreme temperatures in Rio. The safety and well-being of my fans, fellow performers and crew has to and always will come first,” read a statement on Taylor Swift’s Instagram Story on Saturday.

The postponement comes after 23-year-old Ana Clara Benevides Machado died Friday evening after seeking medical attention at Nilton Santos Olympic Stadium during the show.
Though a cause of death has not been announced, it is being speculated that the extreme heat was the reason.
According to reports, fans were not allowed to bring water into the stadium, despite the heat.
Following the incident, federal authorities announced that free water would now be made available at concerts and other large events at the stadium.
Taylor Swift acknowledged Benevides and the tragic incident in a statement, saying she had very little information about Benevides and what had happened, but that she had a “shattered heart”.
Video circulating the internet showed just how hot it was at Friday evening’s show, with Taylor Swift herself stopping her performance to ask staff for water to throw out to fans who had caught her attention as they were in distress.
As the extreme heat continued throughout the weekend, Saturday evening’s show in Rio has been postponed until Monday, November 20, according to Taylor Swift’s website.
